This is a lecture I gave as part of a class on librarianship and publishing I took in the Spring of 2015 at Syracuse University. This lecture accompanied a paper on the issue of diversity in fiction publishing. My research for this project focused on the questions are there still so few diverse characters in fiction? What can the publishing industry do to address this problem? And what roll, if any, could alternative forms of publishing play in addressing this problem?
